Graeme was born in Wales in 1968. He has lived in Cape Town for most of his life. At school he was always interested in maths and geography and thus surveying was a logical choice for a career. He graduated in 1989 with a BSc (Survey) degree with first class honours and decided to study further in the field of photogrammetry.
For his MSc (Engineering) work he developed the photogrammetric software for a patient positioning system at the proton beam facility at the National Accelerator Centre near Cape Town. He graduated with his masters degree in 1991.
He then registered for a PhD and worked on the development of an automated system for the measurement of surfaces using digital photogrammetry. He graduated in 1995.
At the end of 1994 Graeme was offered a job in Switzerland with the company Imetric that specialised in the development of industrial photogrammetric measurement systems. He was responsible for the research and software development of the measurement related aspects of the system. He lived in Switzerland for 3 years before returning to Cape Town where he continued to develop software for Imetric until early 2003. Since then he has been a member of Afrimap GIS.
